Kigali to Akagera National Park and Transfer to Musanze
Your private safari begins with an early morning pickup in Kigali at approximately 5:00 AM. After meeting your driver-guide, you will travel east towards Akagera National Park, one of Rwanda’s most important wildlife destinations. Upon arrival, you will begin a morning game drive through the park’s beautiful savannah landscapes, exploring open plains and wildlife habitats in search of some of Africa’s most fascinating animals. During the game drive, you may encounter elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, and, with some luck, lions and rhinos. Your guide will help you explore the park while sharing information about its wildlife and natural environment. The experience offers an exciting introduction to Rwanda’s savannah ecosystem and its diverse animal species. Around midday, you will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking Lake Ihema, where the peaceful lake scenery provides a beautiful setting to relax and appreciate the natural surroundings. After lunch, you will leave Akagera’s eastern plains and begin a scenic cross-country drive towards Musanze in northern Rwanda. Along the way, you will experience changing landscapes as the open savannah gradually gives way to Rwanda’s green hills and highlands. Upon arrival in Musanze, you will check in at Isange Paradise Resort, where you will enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Gorilla Guardians Village
After breakfast, your driver-guide will transfer you to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi, arriving at approximately 6:30 AM. Here, you will complete the registration process and attend a briefing conducted by the park representatives. During the briefing, you will receive important information about gorilla trekking procedures, forest guidelines, and safety requirements. You will also enjoy a traditional coffee experience accompanied by Intore cultural dance performances, offering a welcoming introduction to Rwanda’s cultural traditions.
At approximately 8:00 AM, you will begin your mountain gorilla trekking adventure. Accompanied by experienced park guides and trackers, you will enter the forest and follow the trails in search of one of the habituated mountain gorilla families. The duration of the trek depends on the location and movement of the gorillas, as well as the terrain and forest conditions. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. You may witness family members feeding, resting, interacting, and caring for their young ones. Watching these magnificent primates at close range is a remarkable wildlife experience and one of the highlights of visiting Rwanda. After the trek, you will enjoy lunch near the local centre before continuing to Gorilla Guardians Village, formerly known as Iby’iwacu Cultural Village. This cultural visit introduces you to traditional Rwandan customs and community heritage through activities such as traditional archery, demonstrations of local medicine, and presentations of royal marriage ceremonies. You will then return to Isange Paradise Resort for dinner, relaxation, and your second overnight stay in Musanze.

Golden Monkey Trekking and Return to Kigali
After an early breakfast, you will travel to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for your final wildlife experience. Upon arrival, you will attend the morning briefing, where park representatives will explain the golden monkey trekking procedures and provide instructions for exploring the forest. At approximately 8:00 AM, you will begin trekking through the beautiful bamboo forest in search of the golden monkeys. These fascinating primates are known for their distinctive golden-orange fur, lively movements, and playful behaviour. As you follow your guide through the forest, you will have the opportunity to observe them moving between bamboo branches, feeding, and interacting within their groups. Once the golden monkeys are located, you will spend approximately one hour observing and photographing them in their natural environment, following the park's wildlife viewing guidelines. This experience provides a wonderful opportunity to discover another of the remarkable primate species protected within Volcanoes National Park. After completing the trek, you will return to your lodge for lunch. Later, you will begin your scenic drive back to Kigali, travelling through Rwanda’s beautiful rolling hills, terraced landscapes, and countryside communities. Upon arrival in Kigali, your driver-guide will drop you off at Kigali International Airport or another agreed location, marking the end of your 3-day private budget safari in Rwanda.
