Moshi – Machame Gate – Machame Camp

Elevation: 1,800m to 3,000m

Distance: 11 km

Hiking Time: 5–7 hours

Habitat: Rainforest

After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate (1,800m) for registration before starting your trek through lush rainforest. The trail is rich with flora, waterfalls, and possible sightings of colobus monkeys. The hike is steady but rewarding as you reach Machame Camp at 3,000m. Hiking takes 5–7 hours over 11 km.

Machame Camp – Shira Camp

Elevation: 3,000m to 3,840m

Distance: 9 km

Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

Habitat: Moorland

The trail leads out of the rainforest into moorland with heather and volcanic rock formations. Enjoy sweeping views of Kibo Peak and Shira Plateau as you gradually ascend. Today’s trek covers 9 km over 5–6 hours before reaching Shira Camp at 3,840m for the night.

Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Elevation: 3,840m to 4,600m down to 3,960m

Distance: 10 km

Hiking Time: 6–8 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert & Valley

Ascend to the Lava Tower (4,600m), a key acclimatization point, then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m). The hike takes 6–8 hours over 10 km, passing through alpine desert before descending into a lush valley with giant senecios. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps acclimatization.

Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Elevation: 3,960m to 4,035m

Distance: 5 km

Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert

Today involves climbing the Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble with rewarding views from the top. The trail continues through ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp at 4,035m. Hiking is 4–5 hours covering 5 km, offering time to rest and prepare for higher altitudes.

Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Elevation: 4,035m to 4,640m

Distance: 4 km

Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert

A short but steep trek takes you to Barafu Camp (4,640m), the base camp for your summit attempt. The environment is harsh with little vegetation, but views of Mawenzi and Kibo are stunning. The hike takes 4–5 hours covering 4 km, allowing rest before the midnight summit climb.

Summit Attempt – Barafu to Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m down to 3,100m

Distance: 17 km

Hiking Time: 12–14 hours

Habitat: Arctic to Forest

Begin your trek around midnight, ascending steep switchbacks to Stella Point (5,739m) and then to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend via Barafu to Mweka Camp (3,100m). Total hiking is 12–14 hours covering 17 km.

Mweka Camp – Moshi

Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m

Distance: 10 km

Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Habitat: Rainforest

A gentle 3–4hour descent through rainforest leads you back to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you’ll receive summit certificates. From here, transfer to Moshi for a hot shower, celebration, and well-deserved rest at your hotel.

Moshi to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park, enjoying scenic views en route. Arrive for an afternoon game drive across the endless plains, home to wildebeest, zebras, lions, and cheetahs. Experience one of the world’s most iconic safari landscapes before retiring at your lodge.

Full Day Serengeti National Park

Spend a full day exploring Serengeti with morning and afternoon game drives. Witness predators in action, herds of elephants, and the rich birdlife that inhabits the plains. Packed lunches are served in the park to maximize your adventure. Evening at the lodge under starry skies.

Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

After an early breakfast, depart Serengeti and drive to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Descend 600 meters into the crater floor for an unforgettable game drive, where you may encounter endangered black rhinos, prides of lions, large herds of buffalo, wildebeest, and elephants. The crater’s soda lake also attracts colorful flamingos and hippos basking in the water.
